The Arctic Circle

The Arctic Circle defines the borders of day and night in Finnish summer and winter. During the winter months, during the time of "Kaamos" (winter nights), the sun stays below the horizon and almost an endless night continues until spring lifts the sun back up into the sky. The contrast of summer is striking as the midnight sun shines over the vast Lappish landscape.
